Hand Trauma

History:

Patient was wearing work gloves and pinched his right index finger between two hard objects.

Solution:

Patient called XMD and gave detailed history to the examining physician.

Physical exam:

Examination showed normal range of motion with intact neurovascular examination.  He has an avulsion and laceration at the base of the fingernail.

Outcome:

Since he was able to have daily follow-up and wound check, all prescriptions were avoided as he showed daily improvement with over the counter medications. Had the patient begun to show signs of infection, onsite antibiotics could have been administered at any time by the treating XMD physician.  A recordable incident was avoided.
